You ain't ugly, you can kiss me if you like

I spent most of the day yesterday working on a single JSP. After meeting the new requirements, dynamic boxes popping and hiding everywhere, the class exceeded the 64k limit.

Since I had already tilized the project, extracting the header, footer and JavaScript validation there was nowhere to turn but the morass of filthy scriptlet in the body itself.
a servlet by another name
does _not_ a good presentation layer make

It took my most of the day to figure out what the hell was happening, about 2 hours to extract all the usebean references and convert ugliness to jsp tags and move the logic to the action class.

But the end of the day, there is not a single <% %> in sight and the body is in 5 "@ include" files - and JAVAC is no longer pooping it's pants.

A bit painful, but satisfying in the end - like crazy good sex ;)

Elect some geeks.. before things get out of hand.

Oil is at $75/barrel, the Leafs are out of the Stanley Cup, Syndney is tendering for a desalinization plant because water reserves are so low and the Armies of the coalition of the willing are still in Iraq.

Thankfully, and tragically, only one Australian dead thus far - "weapons cleaning accident". My heart goes out to the grieving families - the question of politics, whether they should be there - has no place for them. With ANZAC day a few days away, I think even those of the anti-war standpoint who agree, those who give life in service for their country are heroes .. no matter how or why.

I honestly believe that if the geeks of the world were in charge things would sharpen up! I - like many - believe that Bill G is a first class git, however, I would still like to see him as president. He would never make such a crass move as war, he would sneakily undermine the other nations and buy out their strengths. No-one gets hurt (well, not physically) and it becomes a mental game of numbers and intelligence, rather than might.

On a more personal note, I have just had the best nights sleep of my life.. my new queen bed with firm mattress arrived yesterday, and the last 2 months of sleeping on a thermarest are a fading memory already!

melbourne weather

It has changed from rain to blue skies 4 times since I got up at 7:30.

That's the Melbourne we all know and love.

Make that 5 times. Sun just came back..

Nerds FC!

I [heart] nerds!! And football! How cool is SBS for bringing me this program?! A bunch of pale, scruffy, smart, good natured young men making fools of themselves - does tv get any better?

Like, this is *so much cooler* than those fatties on 'the biggest loser' - which *groan* always seems to be on when I get home at night and flop on the sofa.

Nerds are just like anyone else, except they refuse (or don't know how) to be self-conscious.. and often they missed that part of growing up which teaches co-ordination.

They're soooo cute, cuddly and scruffy - I want to take them all home! Except maybe the monobrow guy, I'd want to wax him before I'd take him anywhere.

And yes, I'm aware that this fixation makes me the biggest nerd ever.

¡hola! ¿que tal?

Tonight I started my spanish (1A) course at CAE - 3 hours, I'm beat but it was so much fun. I believe that people who speak spanish are generally happier and nicer people ;)

It was strange walking into the building where I used to work, even stranger was one of the guys in my class used to work there too! Back in the good ole Sausage Software days, where I was all multicolored hair, mac make-up, PVC, leather and big black boots.

Which just goes toward my belief that I never need to say good-bye - chances are good that I'll see everyone again. And perhaps next time I hang out in the same pub as Gavin King I'll actually introduce myself :)

developers are not users

developers: first to complain about usability, worst to implement.

strange days

Today is a strange day .. i've arrived and one day i'm probably going to leave again (hmmm.. canada or europe??).

I love being a geek so much, and most days that all I think I'll ever need. I just want to code until i pass out, but i seriously love hanging out with a boy.

I've been so happy and excited recently - lots of good stuff has been happening .. now that it's slowing down, a little lonely. I'm a relationship junkie! :) I want someone to go to the pub with with, (to the beach, rock climb, camp, dance, travel) and.. erm.. to go to bed with, dammit.

I want them to be super sharp smart - so smart it hurts - and fun!!! And willing to eat food they don't know the name of and do crazy things! Oh, and it would be cool if they were real.

look at the path you're on / out of the way of shelter / stranger days will come / words are over

when will I learn?

rotfl.. so now when my beautiful little vaio boots it only prints a screen full of L's.

Q. why is this, when just hours previously, I had a wonderful suse/winxp dual boot system?

A. foolishly, I installed the IE7 beta.

ah, i must remember, to be a microsoft person - one must be *all* microsoft *all the time*. otherwise, one gets brutally ass-bothered.
